Some nights the serve is a skill. Against Los Altos, it was the whole story.
Alta Loma freshman #4 Kayla Kreimann went to the line 15 times across two sets and came away with seven aces — a season high, two more than her previous best of five against Orange Vista at the Santiago Tournament. One serve missed. The other fourteen landed, and half of them never came back.
It came on a night the entire Lions serving line brought it: Alta Loma finished with 18 aces as a team, and Kreimann accounted for seven of them from the right-back rotation. HUDL graded her serving a 2.07 on the night.
She did it without her full tank. Kreimann wasn't at 100 percent going in — she played anyway, took every serve she was handed, and never let the ball leave her hand without a target. That is the kind of detail a coach reads twice.
The rest of the line
The receive line was quieter: seven attempts, a 1.57 average, two perfect passes and one error. Two digs in two sets from right back, and an assist on her one setting touch. On a night the serve did the talking, the one receive error and the one missed serve were the only marks against her.
The season, through 15 matches
The serve has now become the headline skill in her file. Through 15 matches and 30 sets, Kreimann has 22 aces at 0.73 per set while keeping 91 percent of her serves in play — 103 attempts, nine errors. In serve receive she is passing a 2.03 on 72 attempts, with 46 percent graded perfect and 68 percent keeping her setter in system. She has yet to be charged with a dig error or a setting error this season.
